]]> This week on America’s Cup Uncovered Episode 43, we travel to the historic, deep water seaport of Newport, RI, which for 53 years was the home of the America’s Cup. The legendary J Class raced three Cups there in the 1930s. After World War II, the 12 meters raced eight Cup matches there until Australia II ended America’s 132-year winning streak in 1983. Excellent archival footage of both the Js and the 12s brilliantly documents the boats and the characters – the romance and intense competition – of that bygone era.
With Newport closing out the first season of the AC World Series on June 28-July 1, the show reviews the eight AC45 teams competing for the title.

]]> This week on America’s Cup Uncovered we are in Naples, Italy for the first America’s Cup World Series event of 2012. Italian fans proved to be as passionate as ever for the America’s Cup, with the crowd along the waterfront over the first holiday weekend (April 7-9) estimated at 250,000. Nine AC45s made the start line, including the debut of two Luna Rossa entries, helmed by Chris Draper and Paul Campbell-James.

]]> This week on America’s Cup Uncovered we’re in Auckland where Luna Rossa Challenge and Emirates Team New Zealand went head to head for the first time. We have reactions to the testing sessions for the wing extensions, designed to increase the speed of the AC45s in lighter breeze.

Then, we are in San Francisco to uncover Save the Bay – partner of the America’s Cup Healthy Ocean Project.

But first, some crew news from Team Korea: White Tiger Challenge announced the recruitment of two current world champion athletes. Australian Nathan Outteridge will replace outgoing skipper and helmsman Chris Draper, who has joined Luna Rossa Challenge. Also joining Team Korea is World and European Finn Champion, Giles Scott, from Great Britain.

]]> This week we get an Australian perspective on the 25th anniversary of the 26th America’s Cup. Australia was only the third nation ever to challenge for the America’s Cup when they took on New York Yacht Club in 1962. On their seventh attempt, Australia achieved the unthinkable. The historic win meant the America’s Cup was leaving the USA for the first time in 132 years and heading to a new home in the southern hemisphere. Australia was now the defender. We catch up with Iain Murray, Skipper of Kookaburra III in 1987 and current Regatta Director of the 34th America’s Cup. Iain looks back and then looks forward to the first competitors forum of 2012 in Auckland.

While in New Zealand we catch up with Luna Rossa Challenge to hear about their progress on their new AC45.

Then we profile the world’s number one sailor, Ben Ainslie, who will bring his own team, Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR), to the America’s Cup World Series after the 2012 London Olympic Games this summer.
