International water sports exhibition from September 17 to 25, 2016 – Some 500 exhibitors to present the whole world of water sports – Novelty sports area now to feature a standing wave
Friedrichshafen, Germany – The Interboot exhibition from September 17 to 25 promises unforgettable moments and experiences, with a new campaign and some 500 exhibitors on board.
“We’ve set a new course for the International Water Sports Exhibition this year by dividing up the halls differently and by adding more space, more boats, and a more extensive program of events,” report exhibition head Klaus Wellmann and project lead Dirk Kreidenweiß.
Exhibition areas will display products, accessories and new developments in segments organized by subject for motorboats, sailboats and novelty sports. The broad range of water sports equipment on display will be supplemented with numerous events and activities. For the first time at a German exhibition, hobby and pro surfers will have a chance to test their skills on a standing wave.
Anything and everything that floats and is fun to play with in the water will be presented at the international water sports exhibition. This September, it will fill eight exhibition halls with presentations of sailing and motor yachts, electric boats, rubber boats, skiffs, canoes, kayaks, kites, wakeboards, surfboards, motors, electronics, clothing and accessories.
“Interboot has something to give anyone their own special water sports moment,” project lead Dirk Kreidenweiß assures us.
“A more in-depth program will provide our visitors with specialist guidance and inspiring tips and tricks.”
The new Sailing Competence Center will inform ambitious sailors all about speed, foiling and multi-hull craft. And an E-power area will be focused entirely on the subject of electric drive technologies for sport boats. The 55th edition of the Interboot will have a larger floor area, with the first three B halls and halls A1 (Rothaus Hall) to A5 permitting a new circuit route.

At Interboot harbor, with its attractive maritime atmosphere, boats can be admired in their natural environment. Around 130 sailboats and motorboats will be vying for the attention of potential customers. Training will be offered in cooperation with Boote magazine to teach women how to pilot motorboats. Experienced female skippers will be on hand to share their knowledge and give practical tips. After sunset, visitors can head to the Sundowner at the harbor to relax and enjoy the vibe.
The classics dock will show off the beauty of vintage boats, as will the vintage regatta presented by the Friedrichshafen sailing and motorboat club (SMCF) on September 19. Outside of the race, the participating boats can be admired in the museum harbor. Fans of mahogany and patina will love the new Vintage Speed Village. This area of the Interboot harbor will allow visitors to examine the classics of motorboating – out of the water and right up close. These boats will be taken out for show cruises before the Liquid Quarter Mile on Thursday, Friday and the second Saturday.
Discover water sports with Start Boating
Whether they’re looking for relaxation or adrenalin, an afternoon with the family or high-performance action, there’s a boating sport for everyone. The nationwide campaign Start Boating, whose initiators include the Interboot, hopes to get a variety of target groups on board – in particular those who are new to water sports. The initiative was started last year and organizes tryout cruises and information events so that would-be water sports enthusiasts get a chance to take the helm into their own hands. So far, the campaign has met a good response, having provided hundreds of tryouts throughout Germany. Start Boating will be attending the Interboot with an information stand in the west foyer. There will also be nine motorboats and two sailing yachts in the harbor, which can be booked for free tryout cruises on the second weekend of the exhibition. However, the slots are already nearly filled, so book soon at www.start-boating.de!
Interboot Academy: By pros for pros
This year, the Interboot will provide a larger selection of specialist presentations. Bobby Schenk, famous for his sailing cruises and global circumnavigations, will hold a blue-water sailing seminar, for which he has assembled a group of ten round-the-world sailors, Olympians, and professional sailors. Over two days, these experts will share their years of experience and provide inspiration to those dreaming of sailing around the world themselves. Peter G. Boot, formerly of the Royal British Navy, will give seminars on VHF radio and plotters. His goal: safety at sea. In cooperation with the Delius Klasing Verlag publishing house, the Academy will also host a series of presentations (subject to fees) on advanced theoretical and practical subjects including knots and splicing. Also provided by Delius Klasing Verlag, there will be yacht skipper training courses with practical tips and tricks taught by top German sailor Timmy Kroeger.
Interboot Action Days: Watery fun for the kids
The Interboot Action Days will take place for the second time on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25. Junior water sports athletes between the ages of 12 and 16 will have the chance to acquaint themselves with water sports like sailing, motorboating, diving and stand-up paddling.
