Ñeti and Hubert enjoy discover life in China (+Video)
Team Telefónica bowman Antonio Cuervas-Mons escaped the action in the Sanya race village to discover life in China away from the Volvo Ocean Race.
Accompanied by Groupama shore crew and fluent Mandarin speaker Hubert Lemonnier, Cuervas Mons, known better by his nickname Ñeti, took a tour round a local fishing community not far from Sanya to get a taste for rural Chinese living.
“It reminds me of the last part of the last leg – there are so many fishing boats!” the Spaniard said as they motored around the floating village in a fishing boat.
“Now I understand why. I think fishing is one of the main resources for these people.
“I think these guys must have a very tough life around here, a lot tougher than us on the boats.”
The pair were then invited to the floating fish farm owned by their guide where they got to see the fisherman’s home and workplace, rolled into one.
“It is my first time in China and it’s great to see how the local people live, and how close they are to the ocean,” Ñeti added.
