Fitur: The Use of Social Networking Sites in the Tourist Industry

SOCIAL MEDIA SHARING Will Highlight the Key Aspects When It Comes to Applying Social Networking to the Tourism Industry

A Social Media Meeting will take place on 21st January within the framework of the fair. This FITUR initiative seeks to analyse social networking strategies at a series of different roundtable conferences, effectively tackling the objectives, actions and results of social media when applied to the tourist industry.

As part of the Activities Programme for FITUR 2012, which is due to take place between 18th and 22nd January in Madrid, a SOCIAL MEDIA SHARING Meeting has been organised, an event that will feature the participation of hoteliers, heads of transport companies and representatives of tourist destinations, with a view to sharing social media experiences and strategies, analysing successful cases and reflecting upon the application of these media to the tourist industry.

This meeting, to be staged on 21st January, will kick off with the presentation of the report entitled “The Use of Social Networking Sites in the Tourist Industry”, produced by the multimedia communication company, HEY. In order to create its report, the agency studied the social media strategies of a representative sample of 840 exhibiting companies and bodies at FITUR.

The first roundtable conference will then be staged, aimed at the hotel sector, which will be chaired by Blanca Zayas, Senior Media Relations Manager at TripAdvisor. The speakers will include Cristina Mulet, from Meliá Hotels International; Juan Manuel González, from Paradores; David López, from Confortel; and Fernando Fernández de Troconiz, from Castillo del Buen Amor.

This roundtable will be followed by the Transport Roundtable, featuring the participation of Ignacio Valeros, from Iberia; Leticia Fernández, from MSC Cruceros; and Alicia Pérez Patrón, from Avis. This roundtable will be chaired by the journalist, Javier Mazorra.

Finally, we might mention the Destinations Roundtable, which will feature the specialised travel journalist from Condé Nast Traveler, Bernardo Fuertes, in the chair This roundtable conference will feature the participation of the following professionals: Almudena Fernández, from Madrid Tourism; José Manuel Camarero, from Valencian Tourism; Santiago Sevilla and Mónica García, from Sierra Nevada; and Puy Trigueros, from La Rioja Tourism.

Based on an interactive format, in which members of the public can send previously-posed questions and even take part in the post-roundtable questions, the event will tackle a number of practical issues, as well as analysing the specific circumstances and experiences of each company or body. It will also take into account global communication and marketing strategies, highlighting the specific importance of social networking sites and their significance regarding a company’s overall objectives, not to mention aspects such as maintenance and results, actions and dissemination, as well moderation and participation formulas, among others.
