Crowds enjoy Race Village party

Crowds packed the Amphitheatre at the V&A Waterfront for the Cape Town Race Village official opening party on Sunday.

Two days after the opening of the Race Village, and on the day CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand became the second team to complete Leg 1, the Cape Town crowd were eager to party.

The Official Volvo Ocean Race Cape Town Stopover Welcoming Concert presented by the V&A Waterfront began at 1600 local time and featured three acts before the appearance of headliners Prime Circle, the platinum selling South African rock band.

Their arrival on stage was greeted by screams from fans crammed around the stage, and by many more at the back craning for a view on the big screens as they enjoyed glorious evening sunshine in a city known as the Tavern of the Seas.

Team Telefónica completed victory as the sun set on Saturday, with hundreds of people on hand to welcome them in. There were even more people lining the quays as CAMPER came home in second at lunchtime on Sunday.

Groupama sailing team are expected to finish on Tuesday.

The village is open from 0900 to 2100 each day until the boats depart for leg two to Abu Dhabi on Sunday, December 11.
